I understand that it is common in Web pages to start with a gif of yourself, but I don't feel like it, so here is my cat Meatloaf (no, she wasn't named for the singer.)
Enough of that. I have a passion for old films (where "old" is loosely defined as 1930's-1940's or thereabouts.) Picture my movie tastes as a bell curve, peaking over 1940 or so, with tails trailing off in either direction. Genre is not so important, I have favorites in most all categories. A particular interest of mine is in the films of Val Lewton, I put together a site on him, a site without slick images as I often get irritated these days by web pages whose authors get carried away with style over substance.
A list of my favorite movies would also include: The Third Man (1949), The 39 Steps (1935), The Grand Illusion (1937), Easy Living (1937), The Devil and Daniel Webster (1941), The Prisoner of Zenda (1937), To Be or Not To Be (1942), A Matter of Life and Death (1946), and The Kid Brother (1927). (Here is a page I copied from the IMDB's Voting History section listing all 55 movies to which I gave a rating of 10 out of the 1200+ I've voted on.)
I also play boardgames - not wargames or the hard-core simulations, but "beer & pretzels" games, most often European ones. To give an idea of my tastes in those, a web page with info on many of the games I like is Ken Tidwell's Game Cabinet. And here is a small list of games that I own.
If you'd like to talk about any of these interests, please send me email at either yousten@acm.vt.edu or kyousten@bev.net.
Some personal history. Just a bit, don't worry. I was born in Illinois, and lived in several different states before going to college at Georgia Tech in Atlanta. I spent several (more than four..) years there trying not to be noticed, then in 1991 they caught me and threw me out the door with a BS. Now I live in Blacksburg, VA, home of the Electronic Village. I have no significant hopes or plans for the long-term future.
